Kentucky women defeat Florida 94-89 in a tight game
LEXINGTON, KY- (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – No. 7 Kentucky women hosted a hungry Florida team Thursday night at historic Memorial Coliseum. The Wildcats jumped out to a 14-2 lead to start the game and led 29-14 after the first quarter.
Florida played a rough, physical game, and Kentucky got into foul trouble, with star center Clara Strack fouling out in the fourth quarter after scoring 21 points with five rebounds. The Gators outscored Kentucky by 14 in the third quarter and led 73-66 heading into the final period.
Led by Tonie Morgan’s 26 points and 13 assists, Kentucky pulled away in the fourth quarter by hitting 9 of 12 shots from the field to secure a 94–89 win.
With the victory, UK improved to 17-2 overall and 4-1 in SEC play. The Wildcats travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State on Sunday afternoon.
