Widespread Reports Of Central Kentucky Dogs Stolen

The head of the Garrard County Animal Shelter, Brittany Collins, said there’s been a wave of dog thefts.  Collins said in the last two weeks from Somerset to Nicholasville there have been about 30 dogs reported stolen.

Collins said almost all of the dogs were male and purebred.

A Boxer named Bruno is one of the dogs reported stolen.  Laressa Grow owns him.

"When I went out Saturday morning to bring him inside I noticed all three latches were gone, the door was shut back, and he was gone.  His sweater was taken off," said Grow.

Collins said lately she’s heard too many of these stories.

"It’s breaking many families’ hearts and it’s getting cold and not knowing where your family member is, and if he has food, shelter, water.  It’s devastating," said Collins.

She doesn’t think it’s a coincidence that these dogs are being taken now.

"It’s around Christmas time, which means steal them, sell them for money, easy money," said Collins.

To prevent that, Collins has posted pictures of the missing dogs all over social media.

Grow is offering a $1,000 reward for Bruno.  She needs him back for her three kids.

"They’re just heart broken.  They’re praying every night that their puppy returns, and it’s pretty sad," said Grow.

Collins said authorities have a lead on who may have taken Bruno.  They hope to find him soon.
