Wicked Wonders Art Market Added to Lexington Halloween Activities

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – There is a new addition to this year’s Parks & Recreation Halloween festivities. Before watching zombies dance down Main Street to Michael Jackson’s Thriller, the Wicked Wonders Art Market will feature ghoulish wares designed by local artists to thrill, chill and delight.

On Saturday, Oct. 29, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., people can take a stroll through the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion at Cheapside Park and purchase jewelry, lamps, printmaking and other artistic designs. Food trucks will also be on site throughout the day.

One of the more than 15 art vendors at Wicked Wonders, Cricket Press, is happy to show off their Halloween related items. “We’re big fans of the season. We love fall, Halloween, scary movies, and all things spooky and fun. We’ve always tried to incorporate elements of that in a lot of our work, so this event seems like a perfect fit for artists like us, and for people who also love this time of year,” said Brian Turner of Cricket Press.

After many years of noticing people arriving early to find a good spot to watch the Thriller and Halloween parade, Lexington Parks & Recreation decided to create the Wicked Wonders Art Market. “We had noticed that many local artists had work in keeping with the spirit of the season, not just spooky or macabre, but also really whimsical and magical pieces. There is just such a fun energy to it, those that love this time of year and Halloween in particular and just want to be around fellow Halloween enthusiasts,” explained Amber Luallen, Lexington Parks & Recreation Cultural Arts Manager.

The new art market will be held in conjunction with the Lexington Farmers Market. Patrons can purchase fall’s favorite vegetables and flowers to go with their new Halloween décor. “Opportunities such as this create a synergy among farmers and artists that enrich the lives of our patrons and make Lexington an even more livable city,” said Lexington Farmers Market Manager Josh England.

The Halloween Variety Show will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Robert F. Stephens Courthouse Plaza. Enjoy Halloween inspired performances from various groups, including two Michael Jackson tribute dances and a post-apocalyptic circus performance from March Madness Marching Band.

At the end of the Wicked Wonders Art Market, the night continues with the Halloween Parade, groups and organizations will make their way down Main Street in their best Halloween costumes. Attendees can expect to see the Western Kentucky Ghostbusters, the Red Hot Dancing Queens, and many more dressed in their best costumes.

Zombies and the undead will take over downtown at 8:30 p.m. and perform Michael Jackson’s Thriller. This event, which has been named a top 10 Halloween destination by USA Today, enters its 15th year, and is brought to you by Lexington Parks & Recreation, Mecca Live Studio and WRFL.
