Why Are Political Candidates Starting Campaigns So Early?

Andy Barr has only been a congressman for less than six months, but already he has competition for 2014.

Earlier this month Democrats Elisabeth Jensen and Michael Coblenz each announced their campaigns for Barr’s seat.

Political experts say with the rising cost of running a campaign it has become the norm to begin running as soon as possible to raise as much money as a candidate can.

Jensen and Coblenze, who are both relative new to the political arena, say they also need as much time as possible to gain name recognition.

Barr’s seat will be up for election in the Fall of 2014.
