Whitley County man arrested on assault charges

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – A Whitley County man is in custody after deputies say he assaulted a victim who suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to a medical center over the weekend.

According to the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department, deputies were called just after 10:45 to a home on Maple Creek Road for a report of an assault involving serious physical injuries. When authorities arrived, they found a victim with a severe head injury.

Officials say 30-year-old Austin White fled the scene before deputies arrived. He was later located driving on U.S. 25 near the state line, where deputies took him into custody.

White is being held at the Whitley County Detention Center.
