‘White Flag Day’ declared in Lexington. What does that mean?

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — The city’s Office of Homelessness Prevention and Intervention has declared Monday evening into Tuesday morning a “White Flag Day.” But what exactly does that mean?

Lexington’s OHPI department activated its Emergency Winter Weather Plan which is in place for times when “extreme cold weather creates additional, immediate need for expanded capacity to assist persons experiencing homelessness.”

Shelters will add capacity to accommodate those in need. This year’s plan, different from previous years, includes a temporary shelter in North Lexington’s YMCA which can accommodate up to 160 people.
