LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Mark Pope’s roster is readying itself for a chance to make Kentucky men’s basketball history this NCAA Tournament. A key factor to winning in March may be the prior experience in the tournament that several Wildcats have.

Seven players have experience playing in the Big Dance, with Lamont Butler’s game-winning buzzer-beater shot versus Florida Atlantic to send San Diego State to the 2023 finals the most notable past contribution.

Butler’s Buzzer Beater

The UK point guard played in the 2023 National Championship and lost to UConn, but reached the Sweet Sixteen a year later. He averaged eight points, three assists and three rebounds in his March Madness career.

Almonor’s Upset

Ansley Almonor was a part of the Farleigh Dickinson team that upset No. 1 Purdue in 2023 after they won their First Four game. He averaged 10 points and six rebounds in that year’s tournament.

0-1 in the Tourney Fun

Both Andrew Carr and Amari Williams are 0-1 as college players in March Madness. In 2022, Carr reached the tournament with Delaware and scored 13 points versus Villanova in a loss.

Williams, then with Drexel, played four minutes as a true freshman and recorded two rebounds and three assists in a first round loss in 2021.

Brea’s Time at Dayton

Koby Brea went .500 in his NCAA Tournament career with Dayton last season. Brea averaged 14 points while shooting 52% from behind the arc when the Flyers reached the second round in 2024.

Injured Experience

Both Jaxson Robinson and Kerr Kriisa, who are out for the season, have appearances in multiple iterations of the tournament. Robinson played with Arkansas and BYU, but didn’t play in the postseason for the former.

With the Cougars, Robinson scored 25 points including five three-pointers in a first round tilt with Duquesne. Kriisa played with Arizona in 2022, as the No. 1 seed, and 2023. He has a 2-2 record in the tournament.
