What to know before you hit the Kentucky Oaks
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WHAS11/WTVQ) – As people get creative in smuggling their favorite things into Churchill Downs during the Kentucky Oaks and Derby, officials have released their list of do’s and don’ts.
The historic track has banned the popular hoverboards from their premises citing recent safety concerns.
Here is the current list of what you can and can’t bring to Churchill Downs:
DON’T
- Carry in coolers at admission Gates 1 (Longfield Ave. lot) & Gate 17 (Clubhouse off Central Ave.)
- cans and glass bottles
- alcoholic beverages
- laptop computers
- camcorders
- pop-up or patron tents
- cameras with detachable lenses
- tripods
- grills
- backpacks
- luggage
- thermoses
- umbrellas
- weapons
- fireworks
DO’s
- food in clear plastic bags (max. size 18’ x 18’)
- box lunches in clear plastic bags (max. size 18’ x 18’)
- small cameras with attached lenses
- purses
- water & soft drinks (in clear plastic containers unopened)
- sunscreen in non-glass containers
- baby / diaper bags (subject to search)
- strollers (if accompanied by child)
- electronic items that include cellular phones, smartphones, tablets, small personal music systems, radios and small televisions.
Churchill Downs also says that ticketed patrons who leave the grounds during the event will not be re-admitted.
