What caused the power outages across Fayette County?
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) — As of 11:30 a.m., Fayette County is tracking about 3,400 power outages.
We spoke with Kentucky Utilities about what happened and when customers can expect to get their power back.
“We know that we have an isolated incident at our Lakeshore substation, it was on our transmission line, but we don’t know what caused it,” said Chris Whelan.
This isolated incident caused thousands of residents to lose power in their homes and also affected many traffic lights.
Lexington police cars were connected to the lights for them to properly work.
But Whelan says the power outages should not last much longer.
“It could continue through the morning for some customers, and some customers may experience a brief outage maybe about an hour, in order for our crews to safely make those repairs,” she added.
Even though the isolated incident stemmed from Liberty Road, it caused power outages to roads like Man o War Boulevard and Richmond Road.
Crews have been working while the number of outages continues to fluctuate.
“It shouldn’t take long as we make these repairs and again we appreciate our customer’s patience on this, and we understand it is cold, so we certainly appreciate their patience,” Whelan said.
