Weather cooperates as campers wait for bottle signing
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ)- Years past, campers sat in the cold, snow and rain just hoping to mingle with former Kentucky Wildcats whose names would soon adorn their bourbon-filled bottles of Maker’s Mark.
Winter lovers will have no such luck this year. Warmer temperatures are keeping campers toasty inside the “celebration barn” on the grounds at Keeneland. Alonzo Shirley reclaims his throne as first-in-line once again. He says last year, he overslept.
Elsewhere, campers donning ’78 Championship t-shirts kick back in waiting to meet some of their heroes — Jack “Goose” Givens, Kyle Macy and others will be sharing a bottle of Maker’s with them, even if just for a few moments.
Former UK head coach Joe B. Hall is the most recent addition to the signing, building excitement even larger than it already was.
The signing starts at 7:30 Friday morning. According to Shirley, all 1,200 tickets for the signing have been given out. Proceeds go toward the assisting student athletes with academics.
