Wayne County man charged with attempted murder after string of vehicle thefts, sheriff says
MONTICELLO, Ky. (ABC36 News Now) — A Wayne County man is facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, after allegedly stealing several vehicles and trying to run over someone during the crime spree, according to Wayne County Sheriff Tim Catron.
The sheriff said deputies were called just before midnight Thursday when a man tried to steal an ambulance from Wayne County Hospital. While unsuccessful, the suspect — identified as Anthony Dykes of Monticello — took a black Ford Fusion from the scene.
Over the next hour, Dykes allegedly stole two more vehicles, a Chevrolet Silverado and a Chevrolet Suburban, and at one point attempted to hit the Suburban’s owner with the stolen vehicle. Deputies later found the vehicles abandoned and arrested Dykes walking in Monticello.
Dykes is charged with three counts of auto theft and one count of attempted murder. He remains in the Wayne County Detention Center on a $50,000 cash bond.
