Waveland Historic Site hosts fourth-annual ‘Car Cruise’

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The grounds of the Waveland Historic Sight saw a gathering of more than 100 hot rods Sunday for the 4th annual Waveland ‘Car Cruise’.

The event, which is organized by the Friends of Waveland and local DJ Karl Shannon, raises money for upkeep on the Waveland estate. Shannon recounts how it all started.

“I just asked Chalra Reed, who’s the park manager, ‘hey, could we do a car cruise out there?’ ‘well, yeah.’ We’ve done it and it’s been hugely successful. Today the weather is wonderful and we’ve got a huge turnout today. It’s so cool to see the cars parked around the mansion. The history of this place is amazing. And a lot of people don’t even know that it’s right here in Fayette County,” said Shannon.

Shannon and company plan on holding next year’s cruise the third weekend of August.
