Warm Saturday gives way to storms tonight before a much cooler Easter Sunday in Kentucky
Showers and gusty storms move through overnight with heavy rain before temperatures drop nearly 20 degrees for a chilly but sunny Easter
Summer-Like Warmth to Start the Weekend
Saturday brought a taste of summer across central and eastern Kentucky. Sunshine dominated much of the day, helping temperatures surge into the upper 70s and even low 80s in some spots.
It was a warm and breezy day, especially ahead of an approaching cold front. Those gusty winds you felt were an early signal of changes already underway across the region.
Showers and Storms Move In Tonight
As we head into the evening hours, that cold front will push through Kentucky, bringing a line of showers and a few thunderstorms with it.
These storms are not expected to be widespread severe, but they will still pack a punch. The biggest concern will be gusty winds, with some areas seeing wind gusts potentially reaching 35 to 45 mph as showers move through.
In addition to the wind, we’ll also see periods of moderate to heavy rainfall, with some areas picking up around an inch of rain. That could lead to some ponding on roads and minor issues in low-lying spots.
Rain will continue through the evening and overnight hours, gradually pushing east and clearing out by early Sunday morning.
Cooler Air Arrives Just in Time for Easter
Once the cold front passes, you’ll definitely notice the difference.
Easter Sunday will bring plenty of sunshine back to the region, but temperatures will be significantly cooler — about 20 degrees colder than Saturday. Afternoon highs will only reach the mid 50s, making it feel much more like early spring again.
If you’re heading out for Easter plans, you’ll likely want a jacket, especially during the morning hours when temperatures start off in the 40s.
Quiet and Cooler Pattern Early Next Week
The cooler pattern doesn’t just stop on Sunday.
High pressure settling into the region will bring dry and quiet weather through the start of the week, but also some chilly mornings. Temperatures Monday and Tuesday mornings could drop into the 30s, raising the possibility of patchy frost, especially in typical colder spots.
Afternoon highs early in the week will stay on the cooler side, mainly in the 50s to low 60s.
Gradual Warm-Up Returns by Midweek
After the early-week chill, temperatures will begin to rebound.
By midweek, highs climb back into the upper 60s and low 70s, and by the end of the week, we’re looking at a return to mid to upper 70s, possibly near 80 degrees again.
Best of all, much of this stretch looks dry with plenty of sunshine, making for a really nice run of spring weather.
