Walt Jones out as EKU baseball head coach
Jones spent one full season at the helm
RICHMOND, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)– Eastern Kentucky University is searching for a new head baseball coach after announcing that Head Coach Walt Jones will not return for a second full season in charge.
“We want to thank Walt for all his hard work and dedication to EKU baseball, our campus and the community,” said EKU Athletic Director Kyle Moats.
Under Jones this past season, EKU went 11-44 overall with multiple losing streaks, winning twice away from home and only nine times in Richmond.
He moved into the acting head coach role during the 2024 season after former head coach Chris Prothro took a medical leave of absence and never returned to the program.
Later on that season, Jones was given the full time job.
