Kentucky’s voter rolls show continued growth among independents

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Kentucky’s voter registration rolls continue to grow, with the biggest surge coming from outside the two major parties.

Secretary of State Michael Adams said more Kentuckians registered under “other” political affiliations in August than Democrats and Republicans combined. That marks the sixth consecutive month of growth for independents.

As of now, Republicans make up about 47 percent of the electorate, Democrats 42 percent, and around 11 percent are registered with other parties or as independents.

Adams said he hopes candidates filing for the 2026 elections will take note of the trend.
