Voice of Hope Shed Light On Overdose Awareness
Saturday was National Overdose Awareness Day, and one local nonprofit celebrated the day by hosting an awareness event. Voices of hope is a nonprofit and recovery community organization in Lexington. The event was held Saturday morning at Jacobson Park and featured pharmacists conducting training on overdose response as well as giving out Narcan, free HIV and Hep-C testing, while providing counseling, live music, and activities for the kids.
Organizers of the event say they wanted to show the community that being in recovery shouldn’t be seen in a negative light, but instead it should be celebrated. Rob Perez is a recovering addict and Owner of DV8 Kitchen he says, “I guess the most important thing for us to try and say hey look people in recovery deserve a second chance and we deserve hope.”
Recovering addicts spoke to the crowd Saturday, as well as community members who have lost a loved one to an overdose.
