Versailles blood drive to honor 9-year-old battling cancer

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Versailles community will have a blood drive Saturday in honor of one of its youngest citizens, according to the Kentucky Blood Center.

Baily Ford, 9, depends on blood, platelet, and plasma transfusions as she battles neuroblastoma, a type of cancer.

Baily’s family is hosting the blood drive to help assure a strong community blood supply to support their daughter and other Kentucky patients depending on transfusions. Blood collected at Kentucky Blood Center drives stays in Kentucky to help Kentucky patients like Baily.

The drive will be held in Kentucky Blood Center Bloodmobiles outside of the Versailles Kroger (located in the Lexington Road Plaza at 212 Kroger Way,) on Saturday, March 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Blood donors must be 17-years-old (16 with parental consent), weigh at least 110 pounds, be in general good health, show a photo I.D. and meet additional requirements. Sixteen-year-old donors must have a signed parental permission slip, which can be found, along with more information about the Kentucky Blood Center, at kybloodcenter.org.
