Vaccinations up, positivity rate down in Friday’s COVID-19 report

FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) – There were two positive trends in Kentucky’s coronavirus report on Friday.

Statistics from the state show the number of people receiving a vaccination against the virus was up from Thursday and the positivity rate was down from the day before.

Gov. Andy Beshear often says the positivity rate is a telling indicator of what COVID-19 is doing in the state and where it’s headed.

As of Friday, a total of 2,068,762 people had received at least one dose of a coronavirus vaccine, which translates to 47-percent of the state’s population, according to the state.

There were 531 new confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the state’s total to 460,049 since the pandemic hit more than a year ago, according to the state.

The state says there were nine new deaths, pushing Kentucky’s overall death toll to 7,086.

The positivity rate for Friday was 2.47%, according to the state.
