Utility phone scam in Laurel County
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is warning people of a utility company phone scam circulating in the county. Deputies say the caller claims they’re with Jackson Energy and that the person owes the company money and then asks for credit card information for payment.
Don’t fall for it. It’s a scam.
Deputies say Jackson Energy contacted the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office on Monday after receiving calls from customers about these reported scam calls.
Jackson Energy does not phone customers about past due bills and it doesn’t ask for personal, financial or credit card information over the phone.
