Urban Council Member responds to restraining order

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – 4th District Councilwoman Brenda Monarrez is speaking out after being accused of inappropriate behavior by another councilmember. The accusations led to a judge’s ruling last week that Monarrez is no longer allowed to attend council meetings in person and must work from home.

The allegations were brought forward by 6th District Councilmember Denise Gray, who filed a protective restraining order against Monarrez, citing behavior described as aggressive.

In a statement Monday, Monarrez denied the accusations, saying, “I do not know exactly what is driving this sudden unexpected derogatory accusation, but it does not escape attention that the allegation has been made within 90 days of our next city council election, in which I am on the ballot.”

Monarrez also stated, “I proudly continue my efforts and duties to represent my constituents as usual and will be attending official city council meetings remotely for the time being, which thankfully protects me from potential further false allegations.”

The next hearing in this matter is scheduled for October 16th.
