Update:Fugitive manhunt continues, two accomplices arrested
TENNESSEE (WTVQ) – The manhunt for a Kentucky native accused of shooting an officer has intensified.
ABC 36 has learned that two people were taken into custody in a Tennessee town late Wednesday night. They are believed to be accomplices of 62-year-old Floyd Cook.
Cook has been on the run since Saturday, when authorities say he shot an officer in Algood, Tennessee, then shot at a Kentucky State Trooper. This sparked a massive manhunt for Cook in two states.
Wednesday night, the Tennessee Highway Patrol says U.S. Marshals spotted what they believed to be cook’s car in White House, Tennessee. As investigators approached, they say the driver rammed into two police cruisers and narrowly missed an officer who drew his gun and fired a shot at the car.
Officials say it turned out cook was not in the car and his whereabouts are still unknown.
Police say two accomplices of Cook were arrested. They are 50-year-old Troy Wayne, who police say was on the run with Cook and Wayne’s girlfriend, 35-year-old Katie McCarty. Investigators say McCarty was found in a field covered in mud.
