UPDATE: Woman surrenders after police standoff that closed Versailles Road

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Versailles Road in Lexington reopened late Tuesday night after being closed by a police standoff.

Lexington Police say an officer pulled a car over on a traffic stop on Versailles Road and quickly realized the car had been reported stolen from Lawrenceburg.

Police say the driver pulled into the back of an apartment complex and eventually got out of the vehicle and took off running.

Investigators say officers tazed the woman twice and while trying to handcuff her, she pulled out a gun from her waistband.

Police say they backed-off as the woman threatened them and herself.

They say she was walking along busy Versailles Road with gun, so police quickly moved to close that stretch of the road.

Investigators say the woman eventually went up onto the front porch of a vacant house along Versailles Road, where police negotiated with her for nearly three hours.

They say the woman eventually put the gun down and surrendered. She was arrested without incident and taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.

Police say the woman, whose name wasn’t immediately available, is from Lawrenceburg and has five warrants out against her, mostly for not showing up to court on traffic charges.

No one was injured during the long ordeal, but some residents in the area were told to stay inside their home or weren’t allowed to go to their home during the incident.
