UPDATE: Winchester Family Loses Pets In Intense House Fire
Firefighters were called to the house on North Bloomfield around 1:00 p.m.
Winchester and Clark County Fire Departments fought the flames.
Bill and Anita Bridges said they were sitting on their front porch at the time, and didn’t realize right away that their house was on fire.
The fire damaged some neighboring homes.
April Strange lives next door to the Bridges and reportedly called 911.
"When we walked out the heat was so bad….The front door, it was the heat. I can’t describe it. That kind of inferno heat," said Strange.
The heat was also felt by the firefighters as they tried to stay hydrated while battling the flames.
Firefighters said two of the family’s four cats died in the fire.
A third cat escaped and survived, and a fourth was still missing.
Investigators were working to figure out how the fire started.
But they said early signs indicated that it could have started with an air conditioning unit in the back of the home.
