Update: Vape mistaken for firearm at East Jessamine Middle School, police say
UPDATE 2:
NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — Nicholasville Police say there was no active shooter and no weapon found at East Jessamine Middle School following an emergency response Friday morning.
According to Assistant Chief Matt Marshall, officers were initially dispatched to the school for a report of an active shooter. Police immediately secured the campus and launched an investigation.
Marshall said officers determined there was no gun on campus and no active shooter threat. He said it was his understanding that a vape device had been mistaken for a firearm.
There were no injuries or arrests reported. Authorities also said no criminal activity has been identified at this time.
Students are now being released to their parents from the school.
The Nicholasville Police Department said they appreciate the public’s cooperation during the response.

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — According to a post from the Nicholasville Police Department, officers responded to an emergency at East Jessamine Middle School on Monday.
Police said there are no reported injuries at this time. Officers are actively securing the campus, and authorities do not yet have a timeline for when people will be able to enter or exit the property.
The Nicholasville Police Department advised that any parents wishing to pick up their children should report to John Preece Drive.
Officials said they will provide more updates as information becomes available.
