Update: Urban County Council Still Deciding How To Spend Surplus Money
During a special meeting on Tuesday, October 15th, the council recommended the following spending:
- $600,000 for the Legacy Trail
- $400,000 for new kitchen floor at the jail
- $45,000 to renovate bus shelter on Alexandria Drive
In the two weeks leading up to Tuesday’s meeting, the council recommended putting $2.5 million in the city’s rainy-day fund.
Spending $3.2 million to replace 25 police cruisers and 11 unmarked cars, two fire engines and two emergency medical vehicles, plus $40,000 for new air tanks for the fire department.
The council also recommended spending $250,000 on pre-development work at the old county courthouse, which was closed due to high levels of lead dust.
Other spending proposals include $350,000 for facility HVAC projects, $325,000 for pothole repair, $400,000 for roofing projects, $125,000 to repave part of the road in Jacobson Park, $45,000 for an aquatic climbing wall at Woodland Park and $26,000 for traffic signals at the Reynolds Road roundabout.
Once the council finalizes its list of projects, two readings will be needed for final approval.
