UPDATE: Two Kentuckians continue journey on ABC’s ‘American Idol’

UPDATE: (3/23/21 10:30 A.M.)

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The journey continues for two Kentuckians on ABC’s show ‘American Idol’ after Monday’s night duet challenge.

Lancaster native Alex Miller will move onto the next round, after his performance of “I Walk the Line” by Johnny Cash, with duet partner EmiSunshine. The two held their ground, despite judge Luke Bryan’s advice to change up their song choice.

Bryan said he wanted them to pick a different song to push them to grow as artists.

Also moving onto the next round is Perrysville’s Alyssa Wray, after pairing with Grace Kinstler, to perform a soulful edition of “Grenade” bringing judges to their feet.

Mount Vernon’s Courtney Arnold, the other Kentuckian on the show, is not moving onto the next round. Arnold shared on social media she was fortunate to have had Logan McDowall as her partner.

“We both put in so much hard work and time into our song selected and I hate that none of it ever got shown. We sang our hearts out,” said Arnold. “Sometimes we don’t understand why but we have to trust that God has a reason for everything.”

Watch the next part of the journey for Miller and Wray on ‘American Idol’ on Sunday’s and Monday’s at 8 P.M. on ABC 36.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Three Kentucky singers continue their journey to stardom. Alyssa Wray, Courtney Arnold and Alex Miller all punched their ticket to Hollywood recently on ABC’s show ‘American Idol’.

Lancaster native Alex Miller talked to ABC 36’s Erica Bivens and Cody Adams on Good Day Kentucky about his experience with the show thus far, and what else viewers can expect this season.

“Things have been going really well. I’ve been doing a lot of interviews, and getting to meet a lot of nice folks and that’s what makes the whole business worthwhile,” said Miller.

Miller says most people don’t believe he’s only 17.

“They usually think I’m about 25 of 27 or so, but maybe that has to do with height too,” laughed Miller. “They think I’m some old fellow, but I ain’t.”

Miller says he’s a traditional country singer but enjoys all kinds of music from jazz to blues.

As for that duet with judge Luke Bryan, Miller says it was completely unrehearsed. “I had a lot of people ask if that was staged,” said Miller. “I had no idea he was going to get up there and do that.”

The show has helped Miller improve his social media skills. Plus, “It shows me a little more of the business side of things now.”

Sunday, Miller performed his own version of “Freeborn Man”, getting a standing ovation from all three judges.

All three Kentuckians made it to the next round which is called the “Hollywood Week Duets Challenge”.

You can watch ‘American Idol’ on Sunday and Monday night’s at 8, on ABC 36.
