UPDATE: Third arrest made in shooting death of UK student

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – Lexington Police say a third suspect, a 17 year old, has been arrested and charged with murder, robbery and tampering with physical evidence after the death of University of Kentucky junior Jonathan Krueger, 22.

That comes after the arrest of two suspects: Justin Smith, 18, and Efrain Diaz, 20, on Friday.

Police say the shooting death of Krueger happened early Friday morning near Maxwell Street and Transylvania Park.

Transylvania Park was at one time an exclusive address. It is now the scene of one of Lexington’s latest high-profile murders; a sad example that crime doesn’t discriminate.

“Bad things are going to happen but there’s no way to protect yourself from that random kind of stuff,” said Sue Mize who lives on Transylvania Park.

Lexington Police say Krueger was shot and killed around two o’clock Friday morning.

They accuse Justin Smith, Efrain Diaz and a juvenile, 17, of the murder.

Smith and Diaz went before a judge by video conference Monday. Their attorneys entered ‘not guilty’ pleas but the judge says no bond for both.

The pair is due back in court May 7th.
A vigil is planned for Krueger Monday night. It will be at eight o’clock outside Memorial Hall.
