UPDATE: The Salvation Army In Lexington Makes Plea For More Red Kettle Donations

Donations to The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle’s in Lexington are down from this time last year, according to organization officials.

A shortened fundraising season and fewer bell-ringers contributed to the decline, according to The Salvation Army.

Currently the traditional Kettle Campaign has raised $169,598.51. This is down nearly $20,000 compared to last year. According to Major Steven Ashcraft, “With so many depending on us, especially children, we hope in these last 11 days of the campaign to see Kettle contributions drastically increase. We know our community cares. A lack of bell-ringers, rainy weather, and a late Thanksgiving have all been contributing factors to the decline in funding.”

The Salvation Army has relied on its iconic kettle campaign since the 1890’s.

Money raised during the Kettle Campaign funds an array of programs throughout the year, not just during the holidays.

Those interested in supporting the campaign are encouraged to contribute whenever they see the familiar red kettles.

This year’s Kettle Campaign goal is $550,000.00.
