UPDATE: Sheriff: Man shot by mother in Jessamine County dies
JESSAMINE COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Jessamine County man who deputies say was shot by his mother at a home Wednesday has died.
The Jessamine County Sheriff’s Department says 30-year-old James Davis was shot in the head before 8 p.m. Wednesday. He was taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital where he died just before midnight.
Deputies say Davis’ mother, Molly Johnson, told them she shot her son in self-defense at their home on Mackey Drive. Investigators determined some sort of fight happened before the single shot was fired.
The say Johnson called 911 and dispatchers gave the father, also home at the time, life-saving steps to try and stop the bleeding.
According to the sheriff’s department, Davis has had a few Emergency Protective orders filed against him by his mother, but the latest was dropped. He was living at his mother’s home at the time of the shooting.
Deputies say Davis had been arrested a few times for violating the EPOs.
Lieutenant Anthony Purcell was with the parents after the shooting.
“They were both in shock I think would be the best way to describe them. I know she became very emotional later on,” says Purcell.
No charges have been filed against Johnson.
The case will be presented to a grand jury by the end of the month.
