UPDATE: Rare bear sighting in Lexington

UPDATE: Lexington police confirmed a bear was hit by a semi-truck on I-75, just after 3:45 Wednesday afternoon. They cannot confirm it was the same bear in this story.

Kentucky Fish and Wildlife was contacted about the bear.

Police tell us the semi-truck driver was not injured.

 

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — In a rare event, a bear was spotted roaming around Lexington early Wednesday morning. The bear was captured on a home security camera around 2:40 a.m. in the Chilesburg neighborhood, specifically on Stonecrop Drive off Hays Boulevard.

Following the sighting, there are reports that the bear was hit and killed on I-75. ABC36 News is in contact with police to confirm these details.

Wildlife officials advise residents never to approach a bear. Bears will almost always find an escape route if left alone, and it is crucial to maintain a safe distance.
