UPDATE: Public’s response keeps dogs from being euthanized

LANCASTER, Ky. (WTVQ) – A sigh of relief at the Garrard County Animal Shelter on Thursday when enough dogs had been adopted, none had to be put down.

Due to a dramatic increase in the number of strays and surrenders in the last week, the shelter was at capacity, forcing officials to issue a ‘Code Red.’

The code designation means if the dogs aren’t adopted, they’ll be euthanized.  The shelter was going to begin putting dogs down on Thursday, August 1, if enough had not been adopted.

The shelter announced on August 1, the ‘Code Red’ had been lifted because of the public’s response to the shelter’s plea for adoption.  No dogs had to be euthanized.
