UPDATE: Person of interest in homicide case kills himself after chase
LONDON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A man who was a person of interest in a Laurel County homicide case, shot himself to death at the end of a police chase Wednesday, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say a tip led them to 55-year old Kenneth Lipscomb, of London, late Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators say they saw Lipscomb driving out Flatwoods Road toward Laurel Lake, about 12-miles southwest of London just before 5:00 p.m.
Deputies from the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and an officer from the U.S. Forest Service pursued Lipscomb for about a mile and a half, when the pickup truck he was driving left the road and stopped in a field, according to authorities.
Investigators say as a deputy, a State Trooper and the Forest Service officer approached Lipscomb’s pickup, he shot himself in the chest with a .45 caliber pistol.
Lipscomb was rushed to Baptist Healthcare Hospital in Corbin where he was later pronounced dead.
Investigators say they wanted to talk to Lipscomb after someone was found shot to death in his home off Hunters Trace, about a half-mile west of London on Tuesday, March 20, 2018.
Deputies say the victim was shot once in the chest with a .45 caliber weapon. Dental records and other tests are being used to try to identify the victim, according to investigators.
