Update on historic flooding

FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) — While the Kentucky River may have crested, Governor Andy Beshear is warning residents that the state of emergency in the Commonwealth is far from over.

“Remember this event is not over until the waters have receded, until the areas that have flooded are fully dry, until we don’t have saturated grounds that can create mudslides over roads and bridges. So, I’m asking everybody to just be careful,” Governor Beshear said.

According to the governor, more than 500 roads across Kentucky remain closed due to flooding, mudslides, and a rockslide.

In addition, a curfew was put in place for a second night in the Frankfort and Franklin County community until 6:00 a.m. Tuesday to help ensure safety and allow emergency responders to continue their work without interruption.

The death toll from the severe flooding now stands at at least four. Victims include:

  • A woman in Nelson County

  • A 9-year-old boy in Frankfort

  • A 65-year-old man in Trigg County

  • A 27-year-old man in McCracken County

Governor Beshear continues to urge residents to exercise caution and avoid flooded areas until conditions are safe. Additional updates will be provided as the situation develops.
