UPDATE: New information in officer-involved shooting
SHELBYVILLE, Ky. (WTVQ) – State Police say a woman who was shot and killed Monday by a Shelbyville Police officer had a gun when she was confronted by police.
KSP says at approximately 9:00 pm Monday, October 23, Shelbyville Police responded to the call of a welfare check for a resident on Mary Crest Drive and to also attempt to locate a black Nissan Murano driven by 31-year old Ashleigh Bertucci, of Louisville.
State Police say dispatchers obtained information that Bertucci was believed to be armed with a firearm, and to be considered dangerous.
Shelbyville officers made contact with the Nissan Murano and Ashleigh Bertucci on the corner of Tealwood Drive and Mary Crest Drive.
Preliminary investigations reveal that Shelbyville officers confronted an armed Bertucci and during the course of that confrontation, a Shelbyville officer discharged his firearm.
Ashleigh Bertucci was treated at the scene by Shelbyville EMS and transported to Jewish Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
The Officer involved has worked for Shelbyville Police Department for several months. Prior to Shelbyville PD he retired as an Officer from the Frankfort Police Department. The Officer has been put on administrative leave per department policy, according to State Police.
The investigation is ongoing by the Kentucky State Police Critical Incident Response Team and Kentucky State Police Post 12 Detectives.
