UPDATE: Morehead State University student killed in hit-and-run in Chicago
CHICAGO, Il.(WTVQ) – Morehead State University confirms one if its students was killed over the weekend in Chicago.
According to Illinois State Police, 27-year-old Anan Albalawi was killed, and four other people were injured, in a hit-and-run accident Sunday morning on an exit ramp on the Eisenhower Expressway.
WLS-TV in Chicago says Albalawi and four others were in a cab that had broken down on the expressway and they decided to walk up the exit ramp.
They were hit by a car exiting the expressway.
WLS-TV reports the driver did not stop, but her damaged Kia Optima was found just blocks away from the crash scene with extensive front end damage.
Police tell WLS-TV she was later taken into custody but there is no word yet on the charges against her.
According to Morehead State University, Alabalawi was enrolled in the School of Engineering and Information Systems.
The Saudi Club at Morehead State University posted the news of Albalawi’s death on its Twitter page.
