UPDATE: Mayor Gray Looks Forward To Second Term

It hasn’t happened since Pam Miller in 1998; a mayor reelected in Lexington but it happened Tuesday.

Mayor Jim Gray wins a second term, defeating Lexington’s former police chief Anthany Beatty 65 percent to 35.

Anthany Beatty called this election a win-win for everyone hoping to inspire more people to get involved with local politics.

“In terms of what we’ve done, what we’ve accomplished, the level of enlightenment we brought to the Lexington community and certainly the stage we set for the future for other people who probably otherwise wouldn’t have been or even considered to be part of a process like this,” said Beatty.

Jim Gray said it is time to go back to work.

“How can we improve today what we did yesterday and we will keep on investing in our city,” said Gray.

“We intend to do everything that we can do to make Lexington the best place it can be for everyone so we don’t quit here folks.  We don’t give up,” said Beatty.

“We’ve got to keep our eye on the ball and keeping our eye on the ball means continuing to seek and find efficiencies, continuing to create a balanced budget, keep our city financially strong when we do that then lots of good things will occur,” said Gray.
