UPDATE: Man wanted in crash that killed 6 people arrested in Lexington
Lexington Police say they were called by the U.S. Marshal Service after they located Benjamin Brewer, 39, in the Gordman’s parking lot just before 9 p.m.
Brewer was taken into custody without incident, Lexington Police Sgt. Joe Anderson said. But once he was placed in the back of a police cruiser, he became violent and kicked out one of the windows. He was eventually moved to a prisoner transport van and taken to the Fayette County Detention Center.
A woman that was found with Brewer in the car was being questioned by police at the scene.
A grand jury indicted Brewer on six counts of vehicular homicide earlier in the week, as well as charges of aggravated assault, driving under the influence of narcotics and speeding, after a June crash on I-75 in Chattanooga, Tenn. The NTSB says Brewer had driven for 50 hours in the three-days before the crash.
After the indictment, Brewer was added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Top 10 Most Wanted. The TBI offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.
Lexington Police did not know how the U.S. Marshals tracked Brewer to the parking lot. A message left for the Eastern District of Kentucky’s U.S Marshal Service was not returned Friday night.
Brewer will also have additional charges added by the Lexington Police Department for damage to the police cruiser and items found inside Brewer’s car.
