UPDATE #3: From Lexington PD: UPDATE – 06/24/24: The north and southbound I-75 has reopened after being closed for several hours earlier today.  

On June 24, 2024, around 9:42 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Bryan Station Rd overpass on I-75 for an armed suicidal subject. The subject fired several shots and for the safety of residents and motorists in the area, I-75 north and southbound were shut down.

Members of the Lexington Police Department Crisis Negotiation Unit attempted to de-escalate and negotiate with the subject. The male subject discharged his firearm, striking himself.

The subject was transported to a local hospital with reported life-threatening injuries from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No officers fired their weapons. 

At this time, Bryan Station Road is still closed at the overpass. Motorists are encouraged to avoid the area and use caution as traffic patterns return to normal. 

UPDATE #2: From Lexington PD: UPDATE: On 6/24/24, around 9:42 am, officers were dispatched to the Bryan Station Rd overpass on I-75 for an armed suicidal subject. The subject has fired shots. No injuries have been reported. (1/2)

The scene is still active. For the safety of residents and motorists in the area, I-75 north and southbound has been shut down. Crisis Negotiation Unit personnel are currently communicating with the subject. We will continue to provide updates as they become available. (2/2)

 

UPDATE: Lexington Police now tell ABC36 News Now that they are trying to diffuse a situation concerning a suicidal man, who is armed, centered on the Bryan Station Road overpass, across I-75.

We will continue to update the story as we learn more information from police.

 

ORIGINAL STORY:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – According to the Lexington Police Department, North and southbound I-75 at exit 113, Winchester Rd and the I-64 ramp at the interchange with northbound I-75 are currently closed due to an active police scene.

Travelers should expect delays and avoid the area if possible.

LPD says to consider alternative routes.

We will have updates on the closure as the investigation is ongoing.
