Update: Man Getting Off Train Tracks Before Being Hit
The Fayette County Coroner’s Office has released details on a victim struck by a train in Lexington.
The coroner said the victim is a 55-year-old man.
His name is being withheld until family can be notified.
Police said the man was sitting on the railroad tracks at around 9 p.m. near Georgetown Road and Mercer Road when the conductor of the Norfolk-Southern train spotted him and began blowing the whistle.
Police said the conductor told them the man started to get off the tracks but did not get up in time.
They said it’s not clear yet why he was on the tracks.
