UPDATE: Man arrested after standoff with police
LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – A Lexington man was arrested Monday after a standoff with police following a report that he had assaulted his wife.
Police say 31-year old Travis Himes got into an argument with his wife around 7:30 a.m. while the couple was driving their children to Russell Cave Elementary School.
Investigators say Himes assaulted his wife. They say she suffered minor injuries.
As a precaution, the school was put on lockdown, but the family never made it to the school.
Police say Himes turned the car around and headed back to Maple Grove Mobile Home Park on Georgetown Road near the Scott County line. Once there, police say Himes’ wife ran from the car.
Investigators say Himes took the children to their mobile home and barricaded himself inside.
Everyone in the immediate area was told to shelter in place. No one was allowed in or out of the mobile home park.
After several hours, Himes gave himself up peacefully around noon. He was arrested and charged with assault and terroristic threatening, according to police. They say he was taken to the hospital first to be treated for minor self-inflicted injuries and then taken to jail.
Police say the children were not harmed. They were returned to their mother.
