Update: Man Accused Of Hitting Lexington Police Mounted Patrol Pleads Not Guilty

A Georgetown man pleaded not guilty on Monday in Fayette District Court during his initial court appearance after being accused in a hit and run accident involving a Lexington Police Mounted Patrol officer and his horse.

William Grimes was arrested on Sunday, four days after he was accused of hitting Officer Ray Alexander and Alexander’s horse, ‘Paco,’ and driving off in downtown Lexington.

Officer Alexander and the horse suffered minor injuries.

According to a Lexington Police citation, Grimes told investigators he was entering information into his GPS and was distracted when he collided with the officer and the horse.

Investigators said Grimes fled the scene, went home, cleaned up his damaged vehicle and then drove out of state.

He was charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, among other charges.

He is due back in court for a preliminary hearing on September 26th.
