UPDATE: KU Spokesperson Says New Pole Is Up

A Kentucky Utilities spokesperson said Wednesday evening that power was expected to be restored between 5 and 6 on North Broadway after a morning accident.

Officers said the accident happened just after nine Wednesday morning. They reported a tractor trailer was turning onto Sixth Street when it hit a pole holding multiple power lines.

They said the accident knocked out power along Broadway between Third and Seventh streets. According to a KU outage map, the number of customers impacted was around 400.

Early Wednesday evening, crews raised a new pole, replacing the damaged one and were working to restore power completely to the area.

Lexington Police asked drivers to avoid the area during rush hour. Officers said Newtown Pike was the best option and detours around the closed roadway were in place.

At least one business in the affected area posted a sign that it was closed early due to the outage. Another business on Broadway reported being without power from around 10 in the morning until two in the afternoon.

The driver of the truck, according to officers, was not injured.
