UPDATE: KSP says Scott County carjacking suspect committed suicide

RICHMOND, Ky. (WTVQ) – State police say a man who stole an SUV with a baby inside has committed suicide. Investigators say the baby is okay.

Deputies say it all started this afternoon when the man stole a Hyundai Santa Fe from a Pilot gas station on Cherry Blossom Way in Georgetown. Witnesses say a young boy was pumping gas into the SUV when the man came up, pushed him out of the way and stole the car. Deputies say an 8-month-old baby was inside the Santa Fe when the suspect drove off.

Investigators say several law enforcement agencies chased the SUV. They say the suspect eventually crashed the vehicle in Madison County, then got out and ran off. According to state police, the suspect later shot himself in the head.
