UPDATE: KSP releases names of deputy & suspect in Powell shooting

POWELL COUNTY, Ky. (WTVQ)- State police have identified a suspect and deputy involved in a shooting. They say 40-year-old Stanley Marshall was shot Friday morning during a physical altercation with Deputy Mike Townsend.

According to investigators, it started when the sheriff’s office received a call about a man acting suspicious. They say when a deputy approached Marshall and asked him his name, he appeared to reach for something in his back pocket. Investigators say Marshall then ran off into a field.

State police say Townsend chased Marshall down and tried to stop him with a taser, pepper spray, a baton. Investigators say after more fighting, Townsend feared for his life and fired one shot.

State police say the bullet hit Marshall in the chest. They say he was able to walk to the helicopter when it arrived to take him to the hospital. According to state police, Marshall was listed in stable condition.
