UPDATE:  (3/19/18, 11:35 p.m.)

After 12-hours of deliberations, a jury in Lexington found Ronald Exantus, of Indianapolis, not guilty of murder and burglary by reason of insanity.

He was found guilty but mentally ill on assault charges.

The jury is scheduled to return at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20th, to begin the sentencing phase.

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WTVQ) – The jury has started deliberating the fate of Ronald Exantus.

Exantus is accused of murdering 6-year-old Logan Tipton in 2015.

Jurors have to decide if Exantus is not guilty, not guilty by reason of insanity, guilty but mentally ill, or guilty.

Both the prosecution and the defense say Exantus broke into the Tipton’s home in Versailles and stabbed the child to death.

The defense argues that Exantus was suffering from a psychotic break when he drove from Indianapolis to Versailles, broke into the family’s home and killed Logan.

The prosecution says Exantus did know what he was doing at the time of the murder and that the defense failed to prove Exantus is mentally ill.

Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty.
