UPDATE: Gas scheduled to be turned back on in Wolfe County

BETHANY, Ky. (WTVQ) – Troublesome Creek Gas Company is scheduled to restore service to its customers Thanksgiving morning, according to Wolfe County Emergency Management.

County officials had the gas company shut-off the supply line on Tuesday because of leaks detected earlier in the day.  The shut-off resulted in gas outages for customers in the Bethany community.

According to Emergency Management, service was scheduled to resume between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Officials say the gas company would be contacting its customers and line technicians would check every meter.

Anyone with questions or concerns about the service restoration or if any customer suspects a leak or smells gas, they’re instructed to call the gas company immediately at 606-874-0774.

The initial gas line leaks were detected days after a deadly house explosion in the area.

On Saturday, November 23, 2019, two separate 911 calls were made from the Harvest Church Loop Road home of Albert and Elizabeth Vanderpool about a strong odor of gas in the house, according to emergency dispatchers.  The house exploded shortly after the second phone call was made, according to investigators.

The couple’s son, 52-year old Phillip Vanderpool and his 48-year old wife Sueann, were found dead in the basement of the destroyed home the next day.  They had come over to the house to try to find the source of the gas smell, according to investigators.

On Monday, 80-year old Albert Vanderpool died at the hospital from his injuries suffered in the blast, according to the Fayette County coroner.

Elizabeth Vanderpool was eventually released from the hospital after being treated for burns, according to authorities.

Albert and Elizabeth Vanderpool’s daughter Linda, was hospitalized with severe burns to her face.  Another daughter, Brenda, was on the front porch at the time of the explosion, but was not injured, according to investigators.

The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.
