UPDATE: Former Principal Accused Of Sexually Abusing Student Found Dead

A former assistant principal at Madison Southern High School, who was due in court this week to answer to charges of sexually abusing a student, was found dead in Virginia, according to the Lee County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said Joy Hayes was found unresponsive in her mother’s home in Lee County, Virginia on Sunday.

The Richmond Register reported that Hayes was due in court in Richmond this Thursday.

Investigators in the Lee County, Virginia Sheriff’s Office said preliminarily, no foul play was suspected.

The Sheriff’s Office said the cause of Hayes’ death had not yet been determined, but that she recently had the flu and was taking medication for the illness.

The newspaper reported that there would not be an autopsy, but that toxicology test results were expected in the coming weeks that investigators hoped would help determine a cause and manner of death.
