Update: Former Police Chief Buried, Wife Dies

A former Kentucky Police chief was laid to rest Monday.

Law enforcement officers from all over the state were in Tompkinsville to attend the funeral for Herbert Proffitt, 82.

Proffitt was shot and killed last week outside his home.

On Sunday, Proffitt’s wife also passed away.

Many in the town said it was because she was overcome with grief over her husband’s death.

Police accuse Charles Hammer, 81, of killing Proffitt.

They said Proffitt helped put Hammer behind bars.

He has been arrested and charged with murder.
