UPDATE: Fayette Schools Superintendent Screening Committee Named

The final two spots on the Fayette County Public Schools Superintendent Screening Committee were filled on Monday; one by appointment and one by a coin toss.

Monday morning a coin toss was held to determine the parent representative after a PTA election this month ended in a tie between Sharon Mofield-Boswell and Roger Cleveland.

Sharon Mofield-Boswell won the coin toss as the parent representative.

Monday evening, Fayette County Board of Education Chairman John Price appointed school board member Daryl Love as the final member of the committee.

Love’s appointment meant there wouldn’t be a district-wide parent election to ensure a racial minority served on the panel, according to the school district.

State law requires the screening committee to be made up of two teachers or certified staff, elected by their peers; one classified employee, elected by colleagues; one principal, elected by fellow principals; one parent/guardian, elected by the PTA presidents from each school chapter; and one school board member, appointed by the board chairman.

Here are the members of the Superintendent Screening Committee:

  • Certified Representatives:  Meribeth Gaines and Jessica Hiler
  • Board Representative:  Daryl Love
  • Classified Representative:  Julane Mullins
  • Principal Representative:  Kate McAnelly
  • Parent Representative:  Sharon Mofield-Boswell

The committee will be responsible for screening all applicants, adhering to the school board’s directions regarding the security of applicant files and confidentiality of applicant information, and reporting their recommendations to the board.

The school district must replace Dr. Tom Shelton, who left this month to
go to work for the Kentucky Association of School Superintendents.

Dr. Marlene Helm is acting as interim superintendent.
