Update: Family Mourns Those Killed In Nicholasville Crash
Thursday night was a sad one for Sabra Taylor. She lost her son, her daughter-in-law and grandchildren.
The Jessamine County coroner confirmed the deaths of Steven Hibbard, 25; Shaila Hibbard, 26; Kylee Joe Hibbard, 3; Alyssa Carol Ann Hibbard, 4; and James Tanner Phillips, 7.
A preliminary Nicholasville Police investigation showed the Hibbard family was riding in a Mercury Sable station wagon heading north on US 27, near Shun Pike. Police said the station wagon lost control and crossed the median, striking a Ford minivan. Officers said that minivan was carrying five people in the non-profit group, Refuge for Women.
Police said four of those people in the opposing vehicle were taken to the University of Kentucky Medical Center. One of the passengers in the minivan died. That woman was Angelia Poe, 48.
Taylor said she wished she could wake up from this bad dream.
"He’s my baby, my child. He’s the best thing I ever did," said Taylor.
However, the Hager and Cundiff Funeral Home in Nicholasville offered her some solace. They have elected to bury her five family members at no cost. They plan to be laid to rest in Lincoln County at K.P. Hall Cemetery.
But, the family is looking for donations for the tombstones and flowers. Their plan was to set up an account at Central Bank.
There will be a vigil Sunday at 6:30 in the evening at City County Park in Jessamine County.
